Workshop: Writing Your Artist Statement (click to register)
August 3-4, 2023 [9a-6p]
Washburn Studios, Saugerties NY
Course description:
How can language build a bridge between viewers and our art? What constructive dialogues can a group of fellow artists lead that will support one collective goal: of learning how to articulate our creative practice to outside audiences? In this two-day workshop designed for active practitioners interested in learning how to write about their work objectively, we will draft and revise two paragraphs of an artist statement that set out to describe a theory of how and why we create what we do. Participants will bring 2-3 meaningful examples from a pre-existing body of work that may represent their current concepts in art making, to share and discuss with the group. An artist-centered workshop model will guide participants through a stage of draft to revision. Participants will leave with an artist statement that may function as a living document for future use within and beyond the public sphere.
